Govt recovers assets worth Rs 19,111 cr from fugitives Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi

NEW DELHI: Cumulative resources worth over Rs 19,111 crore, having a place with monetary wrongdoing criminals Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, have been seized up until this point, the Center informed the Parliament recently.


In a composed answer, Pankaj Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Finance, said the three have cheated public area banks to the tune of Rs 22,585.83 crore by redirecting assets through elements connected to them.


"... as on March 15, 2022, resources worth Rs 19,111.20 crore have been connected under the arrangements of PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act)," he said. Out of Rs 19,111.20 crore, resources worth Rs 15,113.91 crore has been restored to the public area banks while resources worth RS 335.06 crore have been seized to Government of India.


"As on March 15, 2022, 84.61 percent of the absolute duped assets in these cases have been connected/seized and 66.91 percent of all out misfortune to the banks has been given over to banks/seized to Government of India," Chaudhary said.


The consortium of moneylenders drove by the State Bank of India (SBI) has acknowledged Rs 7,975.27 crore by offer of resources gave over to them by the Directorate of Enforcement.


While Vijay Mallya owes over Rs 9,000 crore to a consortium of banks, diamantaires Nirav Modi and Choksi, who are the fundamental charged in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) advance extortion case, owe around Rs 13,000 crore to the bank.
