Australia's Victoria state to host 2026 Commonwealth Games

SYDNEY: The Australian province of Victoria declared Tuesday that it will have the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with all games occurring outside of the state capital Melbourne.


The state's chief, Daniel Andrews, adulated the Commonwealth Games Federation for embracing Victoria's pitch for the global multisports occasion, conceding that "it's undeniably more hazardous than simply running it in a huge city".


The 2026 Games will be held in four territorial centers in the towns of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland, each with its own competitors' town.


Nonetheless, the initial function will be held at Australia's biggest games arena, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which can hold in excess of 100,000 observers.


The state has affirmed 16 games for the Games up until this point, including aquatics, cycling and Twenty20 cricket, with additional declarations guaranteed.

The Commonwealth Games Federation's leader Louise Martin depicted Victoria's pitch as "a striking and creative vision" for the occasion.


"In Victoria, we accept we have tracked down the ideal accomplice for the following phase of our excursion," she said.


It will be the 6th time that Australia has arranged the Commonwealth Games and the second time in Victoria, after Melbourne facilitated the 2006 occasion.


Andrews said the 2026 Commonwealth Games were supposed to bring a "$3 billion lift to the Victorian economy", which needed to climate long lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.


Australia's Gold Coast in Queensland was home in 2018 to the last release of the "Well disposed Games", as the Commonwealth Games are called.
