"I thought 250 was an excessive number of runs. We offered such a large number of runs on a wicket that swung and turned, the handling wasn't perfect, we released a couple of runs yet this was a decent opportunity for growth for us," Dhawan said in the post-match show.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said his bowlers lost a piece in the center overs with Sanju Samson (86 not out) going extraordinary firearms but rather he was glad that they figured out how to hold their nerves eventually.

"Bowling forthright was great, in the initial 15 overs by KG and Parnell. I thought we got lost in the center overs, offered very many runs, however toward the end, the outcome did go as we would prefer and I'm content with that."

Discussing his side's batting, Bavuma said: "We lost several wickets in the center overs, myself and Aiden (Markram), yet the young men hunkered down.

"Mill operator and Klaasen played emphatically, stung together an organization and took us to a decent score."
