Hardik Pandya will captain India in the T20I matchup with Sri Lanka, while Rohit Sharma makes a comeback in the ODIs

India T20I and ODI Squads vs Sri Lanka: Hardik Pandya to lead India in T20Is against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma returns for ODIs

Delhi, India: The Indian Board of Control for Cricket made the squads for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, which begins on January 3, on Tuesday. After missing the three-match T20I series due to a thumb injury, Rohit Sharma will return to lead the team in the ODIs.

Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder, has been chosen to lead the T20I series, and Suryakumar Yadav will serve as his deputy.

After India's semi-final loss to England in the T20 World Cup playing archaic cricket, Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans to victory in the previous edition of the IPL, was viewed as Rohit's replacement.

The BCCI press release does not specify whether the change is for the entire series or just for Rohit, who is still recovering from a thumb dislocation.

"Yes, there will be no official announcement that Rohit has been removed from T20I captaincy, but he along with Kohli and Rahul will be phased out from the format. #TeamIndia squad for three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.#INDvSL @mastercardindia https://t.co/XlilZYQWX2 — BCCI (@BCCI) 1672159523000 Clearly, Rohit's disengaged thumb injury hasn't totally recuperated in spite of the fact that he has begun preparing. However, phasing out has already begun, according to a senior BCCI source who spoke to PTI on condition of anonymity.

Rishabh Pant is understood to have been asked to report to the NCA for a two-week knee strengthening rehabilitation program because he is not on either of the white-ball squads. As a result, he won't be able to watch the Sri Lanka series.

It is interesting to note that Rahul will play as a wicketkeeper-batsman in the team while Hardik will serve as Rohit's replacement for the ODIs.

Shikhar Dhawan, who is not performing well, has also been left out of the ODI squad.

Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar, uncapped Indian pacers and IPL big buys, have been called up for their first T20I. Titans paid Rs 6 crore for Mavi, while Delhi Capitals paid Rs 5.50 crore for Bengal's Mukesh.

Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad, two dominant IPL players, made it to the T20 side.

Mohammed Shami is back from a shoulder injury, so the ODI team has a more experienced lineup.
