FLORIDA: According to police, a drive-by shooting in a neighborhood in central Florida on Monday afternoon resulted in ten injuries.
During a news conference, Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor said that while the wounds of the other eight victims were not thought to be life-threatening, two of the victims had suffered critical injuries. About 50 kilometers (about 30 miles) east of Tampa is Lakeland.
Taylor stated, "I've been here 34 years, and I can tell you I have never worked an event where this many people were shot at once."
According to police, a dark-blue sedan drove by a group of people gathered along a residential street. Before the car drove off, gunshots were heard from the windows. According to officials, officers were actively looking for the shooters and the vehicle on Monday night.
Taylor stated that the shooting appears to have been a deliberate act.
According to the police, marijuana was discovered at the shooting scene, and investigators believe that drug sales were taking place.
Taylor said that the police had paid a lot of attention to the neighborhood in recent years and that the neighborhood was "challenged."
