In northwest Pakistan, a boat capsizes, killing 17 students and injuring 13

17 students dead, 13 injured as boat capsizes in northwest Pakistan

 

PESHAWAR: Officials say that their boat capsized in a lake in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, killing at least 17 religious seminary students. According to officials, the students of Madrassa Mirbash Khel, who ranged in age from seven to fourteen, were participating in an excursion when their boat capsized in the Tanda Dam lake in the Kohat district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.


They stated that the rescue workers have located 17 bodies.


The boat was carrying thirty people, the majority of whom were children, according to Deputy Commissioner Kohat Furqan Ashraf.


The incident site, where rescue efforts are being carried out, has also been reached by rescue teams from the Pakistan Army.


The local government was instructed by KPK Azam Khan, the interim chief minister, to provide the affected families with immediate assistance.
