
On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended against giving children in Uzbekistan two Indian cough syrups, Ambronol and DOK-1 Max.
According to the findings of an investigation carried out by the health ministry of Uzbekistan, the syrups contained ethylene glycol, a poisonous substance, and were given to children at doses that were higher than the recommended limit either by the children's parents who mistook them for cold remedies or on the advice of pharmacists.
India-based Marion Biotech Pvt Ltd is the manufacturer of these two products, which have been linked to the deaths of 19 children in the nation.
