Delhi, India: Delhi Capitals are scrambling to find a replacement for their captain and star wicketkeeper as Rishabh Pant prepares for a lengthy absence from cricket as a result of an accident.
According to TOI, Pant will almost certainly not play in this year's IPL, and his sole focus will be on getting fit for the ODI World Cup in India later this year.
On the other hand, it has been reported that the Capitals' management is considering contacting David Warner to lead the team in the absence of Pant. Additionally, according to sources, the team may, if necessary, request that Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan don gloves. The Capitals have built their team around Pant, so if he leaves, they will want to replace him with an Indian wicketkeeper.
The Capitals have not made any investments in wicketkeepers despite Pant's absence for the last five seasons. This year, they have England wicketkeeper Philip Salt, but adding an international wicketkeeper would upset the team's balance.
"Pant has been the middle-order's mainstay. Warner has led teams in the Indian Premier League. He will speak with management. Right now, the middle order requires an impactful Indian batsman. If the combination requests it, Sarfaraz will be asked to keep wickets. "The team will be looking for a strong batter or a domestic wicketkeeper in the interim," a source told TOI on Wednesday.
Abhishek Porel, a left-handed wicketkeeper for Bengal who is just 20 years old, will be closely monitored.
The Capitals will have to rely on Indian pacers if they play Salt, as either Anrich Nortje or Mustafizur Rahman will be benched. They have a good all-around option in Mitch Marsh, so it will be hard to bench him. During the most recent IPL, Rovman Powell had also performed exceptionally well. Sarfaraz and India's U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull will be the focus of all attention right now.
