Air India Ltd. Flight from Newark to Delhi is being diverted to Stockholm

Air India Newark-Delhi flight diverted to Stockholm

Delhi, India: A senior official claims that on Wednesday, an oil leak in one of the engines caused an Air India flight from Newark to Delhi to divert to Stockholm. An oil leak was discovered in one of the engines of the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, according to the senior DGCA official.

The official added that the flight landed safely in Stockholm after the engine was shut down following the oil leak.

As a large number of fire tenders rushed toward the aircraft in Stockholm airport, fear gripped the flight's approximately 300 passengers. The Air India flight left New York at 11.35 a.m. on February 21 and was scheduled to arrive in New Delhi at 11.35 a.m. today. D Bhaskar, one of the passengers, told TOI that the flight has approximately 45 people from both Telugu states.

Wednesday morning, around 5 a.m. Indian time, the flight encountered a technical issue. The airport lounge was given to all passengers. Since the authorities have not revealed the potential departure time from Stockholm, the majority of passengers will miss their connecting flights from New Delhi.

The official stated, "Oil was seen coming out of the drain mast of engine two" during the ground inspection, noting that the inspection is ongoing.

A medical emergency forced an Air India flight from New York to Delhi on Monday to divert to London.
