WASHINGTON: CAPE CANAVERAL: Following a two-year suspension following the deadly Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021, Meta Platforms Inc. confirmed on Thursday that former US President Donald Trump's access to Facebook and Instagram had been restored.
In January, Meta stated that it would lift Trump's suspension "in the coming weeks" and would increase penalties to include suspensions ranging from one month to two years in the event that the former president violated its content policies once more.
In preparation for a second run for the presidency in 2024, Trump now regains access to crucial platforms for voter outreach and political fundraising. As of January, he had 34 million Facebook fans and 23 million Instagram fans.
