
Delhi, India: According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands region north of New Zealand on Thursday.
The tremor was assessed at a profundity of 10 km (6.21 miles) USGS added. According to the US Tsunami Warning System, a tsunami warning was issued following the quake. "Coasts within 300 kilometers of the epicenter may experience dangerous tsunami waves," the agency states in a separate statement.
In a tweet, Australia's Bureau of Meteorology stated that there is no tsunami threat.
