Shahid Kapoor discusses how the success of Farzi served as a release for him following the failure of his previous film, Jersey. He also discusses what motivates him to continue working in the industry after twenty years.
Presently, Shahid Kapoor is enjoying the success of his first web show, Farzi. In the original Prime Video film, he plays a young man who decides to print counterfeit currency and becomes entangled in the criminal world. In a visit with indianexpress.com, Shahid examined how the progress of the show has been soothing given he was recuperating a wrecked heart after the disappointment of Jersey. The movie was delayed multiple times because of Covid-19, and it finally came out in April of last year, only to do poorly at the box office.
"It was just heartbreaking. Although it was a stunning film, I believe the universe was not kind to us. The music was released, and the movie was delayed for four months. The universe did not play fair. After watching Jersey, I realized that movies are like fast food—you have to eat it right away. Uska mazaa chala jaata hai if you wait. We didn't know what to do because we had never experienced a situation like this before—a pandemic. Sadly, the film also had to suffer,” he shared.
Shahid went on to say that this is the reason why Farzi's success has made him "really really happy." We also failed to do the film justice, in my opinion. We could have chosen more wisely. Some things are meant to be in a certain way, I don't know. Sometimes there is no control, even when you have control over something.
Is he of the opinion that he made the switch a little too late, given the admiration he is receiving from viewers all over the world for his web show? His entry came at a time when the space was already crowded, and several Bollywood stars have already moved to OTT. He immediately inquired whether any "film heroes" had actually appeared on OTT. He responded, "Accha, main late hogaya yaar," using aliases such as Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Ajay Devgn.
He responded, "I honestly wanted to try my hand at long formats for a long time." I've been watching it and have become obsessed with shows. I've watched them all at once. Additionally, it provides various acting opportunities. It never came down to being first, second, or even late. Since I'm probably the first actor in my generation, it didn't even occur to me that other people had performed in plays. It was all about putting on a good show with good people for me. Additionally, I believe this speaks to the artist in me.
When asked about his journey and how he has developed as an actor and person, Shahid stated, "It has been a huge learning curve. The actor is also set to complete two decades in the industry. I've changed a lot, but the fundamentals have stayed the same. I just get the impression that the innocence with which you began each project fades away. However, in order to continue, one must retain that. It stays at the forefront for me. I also think that you should always be learning, because doing so will only help you grow and keep the fire burning.
Farzi stars Bhuvan Arora, Raashii Khanna, Vijay Sethupathi, and Raj and DK as directors.
