MUMBAI: The rupee acquired 9 paise to 82.16 against the US dollar in early exchange on Thursday as raw petroleum costs withdrew from its raised levels.
Forex traders said that domestic equity's positive trend also helped the local currency.
The domestic currency opened at 82.21 against the US dollar at the interbank foreign exchange, rising to 82.16, an increase of 9 paise from its previous close.
On Wednesday, the rupee shut down at 82.25 against the US cash.
