
KYIV: At least two people were killed when Russia attacked cities across Ukraine early on Friday, beginning with the capital, Kyiv, and continuing through the central and southern regions, according to officials and the media.
"A young lady and a three-year-old kid have been killed," Borys Filatov, chairman of the focal city of Dnipro, said on Message. Filatov did not elaborate further.
Pictures howed a high rise on fire in the focal town of Uman.
According to reports on social media and Interfax Ukraine, there were also explosions in Kyiv and reports of air raid sirens and explosions all over the country.
There were no specifics about what had struck in Kyiv, nor were there any details about injuries or damage. According to the military administration of the city, anti-aircraft units are operating.
After midnight, explosions were also reported in Mykolaiv in the south and Dnipro, Kremenchuk, and Poltava in the center of Ukraine, according to Interfax.
According to accounts on the Telegram messaging service, unidentified aerial objects were also heading for the west of the country, Interfax reported.
The Kremlin said it would welcome anything that could help bring the conflict to an end on Wednesday, referring to a phone call between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The attacks come a day after that.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of last year, this was the first time the leaders had spoken.
