There is no written guarantee to the ICC about Pakistan's participation in the ODI World Cup. Sources

NEW DELHI: Despite the ongoing impasse regarding the Asia Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board has not provided the International Cricket Council (ICC) with any written assurance regarding its national team's participation in the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India.

"Neither the BCCI nor the PCB is required for India to enter Pakistan nor for Pakistan to enter India. As a result, PCB is unable to guarantee its participation in the global event to ICC.

An ICC board member with knowledge of the situation told PTI on Wednesday, "It is the Pakistan government that will give approval, just like in the case of BCCI, it can only come to PCB subject to government clearance."

The majority of Pakistan's matches are expected to be played in southern Indian cities like Bengaluru and Chennai, with the India match likely taking place in Ahmedabad.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), on the other hand, is all but certain to move the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka as a result of the majority of its members rejecting the "Hybrid Model" concept proposed by PCB chairman Najam Sethi.

Pakistan would have played all of its matches in Pakistan, while India would have played in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi, according to the proposal.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, on the other hand, have expressed reservations regarding traveling between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates if they qualify for the Super Fours.

Pakistan will not participate in the tournament if it is moved to Sri Lanka, according to an ACC source.

"Mr. Sethi tried to persuade the members that "Hybrid Mode" could be more commercially viable, but I can tell you that it is a logistical nightmare for cricketers from other nations who travel every second day between Pakistan and the UAE.

The ACC source added, "The continental championship will be a five-team affair if they don't agree that the ACC would request Pakistan to keep their hosting rights."
