GENEVA: After 12 years in positions of authority, Swiss President Alain Berset made the surprising announcement on Wednesday that he would resign from the government at the end of 2023.
Berset, 51, said at a press conference in Bern that he had told his fellow members of the seven-member Federal Council government that he planned to leave the council "at the end of the year." This is Berset's second time taking part in the country's rotating presidency.
