All of Sri Lanka's top-order batsmen scored half-centuries, helping their team reach a formidable total of 355/6 in their 50 overs. Charith Asalanka and Hasaranga's late fireworks added to the score, with Hasaranga remaining unbeaten on 23 from just 12 deliveries.
Hasaranga returned to the attack during the UAE's chase and took out three of their top five batters. This caused the UAE to eventually fall, and they were bowled out for 180 in 39 overs. Hasaranga reached the milestone of 50 ODI wickets in addition to taking six wickets.
— ICC (@ICC) Kusal Mendis played an excellent innings for Sri Lanka, scoring 78 runs off 63 deliveries, 10 of which were boundaries. He and Sadeera Samarawickrama played a crucial 105-run partnership that laid the groundwork for Sri Lanka's formidable total.
Mendis was eventually caught by a replacement fielder off of Ali Naseer, and Samarawickrama was run out on 73 from 64 deliveries, giving UAE a glimmer of hope to stop the scoring in the final six overs.
But Asalanka had other plans, and he showed a great deal of finishing by hammering boundaries at will. He scored 48 runs off 23 deliveries to remain unbeaten. In the final over, Hasaranga also made a contribution, scoring three boundaries, which helped Sri Lanka surpass the 350-run mark.
4 Oman upset Ireland Oman beat Ireland by five wickets in another group match, causing the first upset in the qualifying tournament, thanks to a superb run chase.
After Oman chose to bowl, Harry Tector (52 off 82 balls) and George Dockrell (91 off 89 balls) starred with the bat, Ireland would have been confident after a flurry of lower-order runs helped them reach 281/7.
However, with half-centuries from Kashyap Prajapati, Aqib Ilyas, and Zeeshan Maqsood, the Asian nation successfully pursued the target.
Mohammad Nadeem (46), Ayaan Khan (21), and Shoaib Khan (19*) secured the victory with 11 balls remaining.
