India were driving 5-4 because of Mahesh Singh's objective in the punishment shootout when Kuwait captain Khaled Hajiah arranged to take the punishment.
To the delight of Indian fans, Hajiah's right kick was aimed to the left of the goal, but a flying Sandhu dived just in time to knock the ball out.

This is India's third title this season in the wake of lifting the Tri-countries and Intercontinental Cup.
In the shootout, India's opener was skipper Sunil Chhetri. Mohammed Abdullah's shot, taken in a cauldron, struck the crossbar.
Kuwait came back to take a 2-3 lead after Lallianzuala Chhangte made it 2-0. Udanta Singh then, at that point, sent his spot kick over the objective, permitting Abdulaziz Mahran to tie the score at 3-3. Shabib Al Khaldi once more tied the score for the visitors, but Subashish Bose held his nerve to make it 4-3.
