Grand Independence Day celebrations at the Virugambakkam Residents Welfare Association

 


Chennai, 15 Aug 2023. 

The independence day was celebrated in a grand way by the Virugambakkam Residents Welfare Association (VRWA) and their members today at the Virugambakkam Community Hall.

VRWA - the association that functions out of the Virugambakkam area, celebrated the Independence Day for the 16th time after its inaugural by having a set of functions and helpful activities that benefit the residents. The celebrations started with the flag hoisting at 9 in the morning and then the free medical camp started right after that.

Medical Camps

The medical camp involved different expert doctors from different fields to help the residents have a preliminary checkup for free. Some of the medical camp clinics involved: Appasamy Eye Hospital for eye checkups, Bio Clinical Laboratory for sugar and pressure checks, SIMS Hospital for cardio vascular checkups, Dr. Shaghul Ameed for ENT diagnosis and Krishnamoorthy for food related advisories.

The medical camp saw many residents taking advantage of the facilities and got preliminary diagnosis done for free.

There were also legal advisories present to help residents on any legal issues. Lawyers Manjuladevi and Inbarajan were present to address any legal questions from the residents.




Prize Distribution and Dignitaries

After the medical camp, the prize distribution function began and it was celebrated the by presence of many important members of the community. The function began with the presence of the current MLA Mr. AMV Prabhakar Raja and his speech in addressing the community. The association members awarded the MLA for his various welfare activities in the constituency and the association President Mr. Arumainathan spoke highly about the support and the help of the current MLA for the association and its residents.

MLA then began his speech and spoke about the various ways the residents could help to make constituency better while implying his support for any issues that comes up in the constituency. MLA also mentioned about the whatsapp group he has created for receiving all kinds of complaints from the residents.


The prize distribution continued with the awards being given to various dignitaries and students. Many students who have been exemplary in sports and other activities received awards. The school principals and headmaster who have been instrumental in shaping the future of their respective schools also received awards and recognition. The doctors and clinics that conducted the free medical camp also received awards and recognition. Lawyers were also recognised for their contribution to the camp. 


Lastly, free eye donation stickers and tree samplings were distributed at the end of the function. Overall, it reflected the collaborative and nurturing nature of the association.
