Deaf and silent wrestler Virender Singh laments Khel Ratna's rejection, saying, "My crime is that..."


 NEW DELHI: Enlivened Deafalympian and grappler Virender Singh, lovingly known as Goonga Pahalwan, communicated profound disillusionment in the wake of being disregarded for the lofty Khel Ratna at the Public Games Grants 2023.

President Draupadi Murmu presented awards to a number of athletes at the Rashtrapati Bhawan ceremony on Tuesday. However, Virender was dismayed to learn that he was not included on the Khel Ratna list.

Virender, a beneficiary of three Deafalympics Gold decorations and the Padma Shri in 2021, took to online entertainment to voice his dissatisfaction.

The grappler, an Arjuna awardee, got straight to the point in censuring the Haryana government for supposedly not satisfying its commitment of a Rs 8 crore reward, according to their strategy.

On Tuesday, Top state leader Narendra Modi praised the awardees, expressing, "Congrats to the renowned champs of the Public Games and Experience Grants 2023. Their wonderful accomplishments and relentless devotion are a motivation to our country. Not only have they performed admirably in their respective fields, but they have also helped propel India to global prominence.
