Passenger trains are scheduled to begin running between Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani at 4 pm on Sunday, 11 October 2026, according to DT Next, which cites a Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) release. The 11-station stretch is part of Phase II Corridor 4, known as the Yellow Line.
The central government's 10 October announcement says the section is due to be inaugurated on 11 October. If passenger service begins as planned, it will add a Metro option for people travelling between Chennai's western suburbs, Porur and Vadapalani.
When are trains expected to run?
On opening day, trains are scheduled in both directions from 4 pm to 9 pm. From Monday, 12 October, CMRL's reported operating window is 7 am to 9 pm, with the last trains departing from both end stations at 9 pm. DT Next reports ten-minute intervals on Mondays to Saturdays from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm, and 15-minute intervals at other operating times. On Sundays and public holidays, the reported interval is 15 minutes throughout the operating window. These are announced plans, not confirmation that service has begun.
Which stations are included?
The Indian Express lists the 11 stations in this order from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani:
- Poonamallee Bypass
- Poonamallee Bus Stand
- Poonamallee Government Hospital
- Karayanchavadi
- Kumananchavadi
- Kattupakkam
- Iyappanthangal
- Thelliyaragaram
- Porur Bypass
- Porur Junction
- Vadapalani
What about buses to the stations?
MTC says buses already serve the corridor, while it and CMRL are assessing whether additional feeder services or dedicated stops are needed, DT Next reported on 9 October. That assessment is not a confirmed new bus route or timetable. Check operator notices before travelling, especially on opening day, because planned service details can change.
